International® S13 Integrated Powertrain testimonials

With its exceptional operating efficiency, impressive performance, and straightforward design that's easy to maintain, the new International S13 Integrated Powertrain is set to redefine the industry while enhancing our customers' experience as we advance towards more sustainable mobility. The S13 stands out as the lightest 13-liter diesel engine in North America. It operates effectively at low RPMs, generating high torque, which translates to reduced fuel consumption while providing up to 515 horsepower and 1,850 lb-ft of torque. Read what customers have had to say about the S13 Integrated Powertrain.

Available in: LT Series, RH Series, HX Series and HV Series.

Speer Concrete

we do plan on adding some more s13 integrated powertrain

Since 1985, Speer Concrete has established a strong reputation by serving custom home builders in North Carolina's competitive landscape. This family-owned business is dedicated to identifying operational advantages that differentiate it in an industry where profit margins are crucial.

Every gallon of fuel and minute of uptime matters, especially when you're competing against national companies with deeper pockets," explains Mike Gatti, President and Owner of Speer Concrete. David Foley, General Manager at Speer, faces the industry's practical challenges head-on: "Anywhere you can save fuel is a major plus."

Speer is improving efficiency by piloting International's HX trucks with the S13 Integrated Powertrain and T14 Transmission, setting new performance standards in the concrete industry. Speer's journey to the International HX Series with S13 Integrated began through their established relationship with Grooms Equipment, a specialized integrator for the

concrete mixer industry." David told us he'd been talking to [our salesperson] Tod at Grooms Equipment, and said they had this new motor, new transmission in the International, and he wanted to try it," recalls Mike Gatti.

The S13 Integrated Powertrain combined with the T14 Transmission is exceptionally well-suited for the ready-mix industry because it effectively tackles the unique challenges faced by these vehicles. Tod Godlewski, Regional Sales Manager for Grooms Heavy Truck Sales, elaborates: "It excited us on the mixer side to really give our customers an advantage in the market."

To add to the seamless integration with the TEM, the S13 Integrated comes with several PTO options, including a dual option installed at the factory, plus REPTO and FEPTO options available without horsepower restrictions. The streamlined design of the S13 Engine offers notable maintenance benefits. By removing the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) cooler, the S13 engine becomes especially advantageous for the challenging stop-and-go conditions typical in concrete delivery. This change effectively tackles a significant problem in the industry, helping to minimize carbon buildup that has previously led to various maintenance concerns. "Eliminating that EGR is a game changer. That's the biggest fight we have on the market today," Tod explains. "To remove that buildup inside the engine by removing components, we're simplifying this for the mechanics."

For busy operations like Speer, this translates into more uptime and reduced service costs. "When the fleets can produce 90-95% readiness, that's huge," Tod adds. "We're going back to simple but still getting better results," Godlewski says. The feedback from their initial experience with the International HX S13 has been overwhelmingly positive, prompting Speer to plan a complete transition of their fleet to this configuration. We do plan on adding some more S13 Integrated Powertrain. We're going to eventually switch them all over," says Foley. This represents a significant vote of confidence in both the technology and the relationship with Grooms Equipment and International. When asked if he would recommend the International HX with S13 integrated Powertrain to others in the industry, Foley doesn't hesitate: "I would highly recommend the International HX S13 to any ready-mix provider or actually anybody in the commercial industry. It's an amazing truck. Great fuel mileage. It's a win-win."

PASCHALL TRUCK LINES

STRONG FUEL ECONOMY, GOOD DRIVER EXPERIENCE, 100% EQUIPMENT UPTIME

Following the testing of the new powertrain last fall, Paschall Truck Lines, a dry-van freight carrier, opted to place an order. Vic Norris, the vice president of fleet maintenance at Paschall, mentioned, “During our time with the S13 unit, we experienced very strong fuel economy, a good driver experience, and 100% equipment uptime.”

SADDLE CREEK LOGISTICS

THE TRANSMISSION IS THE SMOOTHEST i HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED

Saddle Creek Logistics Services, a company specializing in supply chain solutions, has recently received its first LT Series truck featuring the S13 Integrated Powertrain, and their drivers are excited about it. According to John Erwin, the senior vice president of transportation, the feedback has been very positive., “When I talk to our drivers, they tell me they enjoy the experience delivered by the S13 Integrated Powertrain.” Saddle Creek driver Ed Hadley adds, “The S13 is great all around. The transmission is the smoothest that I have ever experienced. It finds the right gear quickly and has great torque and power. It is just a really enjoyable driving experience.

*The International® LT® with S13® Integrated Powertrain was tested head-to-head using TMC Type IV testing methodology against competitive on-highway aero models with comparable specifications: Freightliner Cascadia AeroX DD15, Kenworth T680 MX13, Volvo VNL760 D13. Testing proved the International LT with S13 Integrated Powertrain to be at least 5% more fuel efficient than these models. The International LT with S13 Integrated Powertrain uses up to 3.5% more DEF per gallon of fuel compared to comparable on-highway aerodynamic models.
