International® S13 Integrated Powertrain
Offering superior operating economy, stellar performance and a simple, easy-to-service design, the new International S13 Integrated Powertrain will not only Shift What's Possible for the industry, but for our customers as we move forward on the path to more sustainable mobility. The S13 is the lightest 13-liter diesel engine available in North America. It can operate at low RPMs with high torque which equates to less fuel consumption while still delivering up to 515 horsepower and 1,850 lb-ft of torque. It should come as no surprise that the International® S13® Integrated Powertrain needed only minimal updates to meet 2027 EPA standards. It was, after all, engineered with a clean sheet of paper and a long-term vision that anticipated future regulations. As a result, 90% of the powertrain's components carry over unchanged, which means your service tools, parts, technician training, and driver resources remain familiar, making the transition to the 2027 S13® Integrated Powertrain seamless.
Ready for EPA 2027
The 2027 S13 Integrated Powertrain features a double overhead cam design with Variable Valve Timing and an integrated compression release brake, along with a standardized 24V electrical architecture (alternator, starter, engine controllers), while retaining a 12V cab and electrical system for accessories and body controls. The engine, combined with the Dual Stage Aftertreatment System, is so effective at reducing emissions that neither a Diesel Oxidation Catalyst nor any EGR hardware is needed, reducing weight and complexity.
2027 S13 INTEGRATED HIGHLIGHTS
Adapts valve timing to match real-time operating conditions for smooth performance and exceptional power across all engine speeds and loads.
24V alternator, starter, and engine controllers (12V cab and chassis) help enhance cold-crank performance and improve starter and battery life, with up to a 40% weight-savings in components.
24-volt TCM uses learned driver behavior and predictive shifting, utilizing GPS and topography data to optimize gear selection for fuel efficiency and performance.
EGR Cross-over tube and recirculation of exhaust gas removed, simplifying the system architecture. When combined with VVT, can lead to improved combustion efficiency, performance and reliability.

*The International® LT® with S13® Integrated Powertrain was tested head-to-head using TMC Type IV testing methodology against competitive on-highway aero models with comparable specifications: Freightliner Cascadia AeroX DD15, Kenworth T680 MX13, Volvo VNL760 D13. Testing proved the International LT with S13 Integrated Powertrain to be at least 5% more fuel efficient than these models. The International LT with S13 Integrated Powertrain uses up to 3.5% more DEF per gallon of fuel compared to comparable on-highway aerodynamic models.
