what is clean truck check?

The Clean Truck Check program in California focuses on heavy-duty vehicles over 14,000 pounds, including various types such as buses, commercial vehicles, and even some personal vehicles. It assesses their emissions control systems to ensure they are working properly, regardless of whether the vehicles are registered in California or not.

If a truck from a fleet is traveling to California, all trucks within the fleet must undergo an emissions check and register with the California Air Resources Board (CARB), trucks must also receive a routine check every six months. Please Note: We do NOT test non-OBD vehicles/ any diesel older than 2012.

Clean Truck Check Information

In December 2021, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) established the Heavy-Duty Inspection and Maintenance (HD I/M) Program, now referred to as Clean Truck Check. The goal of this initiative is to maintain air quality standards by ensuring that emissions control systems in heavy-duty vehicles function properly throughout their operational life. Participants in the program are required to register in the Clean Truck Check database, pay specific fees per vehicle, and undergo regular testing.

CARB assesses engine emissions to confirm that vehicles comply with California's stringent emission regulations. Importantly, all heavy-duty trucks that transport goods to and from the state's ports or rail yards, along with refrigerated trucks operating anywhere in California, must adhere with CARB regulations. This initiative is designed to enhance air quality and minimize the environmental effects of commercial transportation in the state.
