1. National Labor Day Enforcement Crackdown - "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" - goes into effect across the US on 9/2.  With an increase in road traffic over the long holiday weekend, the likelihood of accidents increases as well. Please remember to drive safe and exercise caution on the roads.

2. Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance's Brake Safety Week is about 2 weeks away - 9/15 - 9/22! Contact us if you would like to schedule a brake inspection prior to the start of brake safety week.

3. Labor Day Driving Tips from America's Road Team - Do a 'walk-around' prior to leaving, plan ahead, program your GPS, leave early and avoid risks, beware of trucks' 'blindspots', expect the unexpected, park to use cell phones, use turn signals, yield, stay alert in construction zones, and much more! Read the full list of tips in the complete edition.

4. Truck Terminal Facility Preparation - take extra precautions to secure trucks and items of value at your terminals.  Using a little prevention and common sense can help deter thieves from striking your facility. Read up on all the tips and precautions.

5. FMCSA Unveils Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse Query Plan - fee structure announced. A query, an electronic check-in to the clearinghouse, will be required by carriers to determine if current or prospective employees are prohibited from performing safety-sensitive functions, such as operating a commercial motor vehicle (CMV), due to unresolved DOT drug and alcohol violations.

6. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Revealed Plans to Research the viability of camera-based visibility systems as an option for large trucks instead of traditional rear-view mirrors - Participants would be truck drivers who operate a test vehicle with a camera-based system instead of original mirrors, or a combination of both. The tests would include track and on-road driving under various conditions.  Drivers who are interested in participating in the study would have to complete a questionnaire before being considered. They must also hold a valid commercial driver's license in the U.S. and drive at least 11,000 miles annually.
